> where you are blocking legit websites that can be used for> helping the company...that's over the lineIs that your decision to make though? If' a blocked website really is that useful, go through the proper channels and get it unblocked.

Try googling it and reading the site via the google cache. Easy work-around for minor text websites.

haha to all of those that were blocked. the users here are on TS and don't have rights to install programs or change there proxy settings. Not to mention if they did find a way to do it they would not go anywhere because all port access is restricted from that subnet. so no work around unless you are on a different subnet altogeather.

This is really basic. Most decent (i.e. secure) corporations/institutions get around this by ensuring that you can only access the Internet via a proxy server. This means no SSH or sockets at all.Useful for n00bs, yeah. But otherwise it's obvious, and old news.

I am definitely intrigued by this, but is it legal? Montek asked a good question, is it worth it?

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm a network administrator myself and while I don't necessarily agree with all of my company's policies, it is standard company procedure to terminate employment immediately if an employee is caught doing something like this. That being said my job has its perks; no one is monitoring what I do :).

You can try this, is maybe easier to setup you have to install a proxy tunnel yourself at your home computer. Here the HowTo <a class="user" href="http://sharkssl.com/44100/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=b71f75cbde257e319c1b7a5b6a64834d">http://sharkssl.com/44100/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=b71f75cbde257e319c1b7a5b6a64834d</a> , all the HowTo are made for the free version of BarracudaDrive , called homeserver. When you buy the professional version the proxy is allready buildt in. The free and the professional version you find at <a class="user" href="http://barracudaserver.com/products/BarracudaDrive/HttpsTunnel.html">http://barracudaserver.com/products/BarracudaDrive/HttpsTunnel.html</a> enjoy, Wolfgang

Go to www.HTTP-TunnelClient.com It is free, but slow. Paid is super fast, espically for p2p. Love that I am monitor free. :)

Then there are those of us that are at a University, paying thousands to be able to go to classes with WiFi, who are blocked like crazy, even if they use their own laptop.I'm not even looking to browse anything illicit or anything like that.I have a job, and part of that job involves modding the company iRC and running the company playlist. My timeslot is EXACTLY the same as my class. If I they hadn't locked down the ports on the internet I'm paying thousands of dollars for, I'd be able to mod the chat and cover the playlist, which is what I'm being payed for, and not having access to it gets me another step closer to being fired. It's not 'Greed'. It's my job. Careful before you judge people just because they want to do something that, in a normal situation, is bad.

I recommend looking into a commercial solution for how to bypass this kind of restrictions. I am talking about VPN. Set up by private companies, they are on secure servers, behind a firewall and usually traffic is encrypted. This ensures security, even in high risk areas, such as public wireless hotspots. I could suggest happy VPN as one of the companies which provide this service, but there are others as well. Here's the link: <a class="user" href="http://www.happyvpn.net">http://www.happyvpn.net</a> .thanks

What if "doing my work" involves "getting a paper that I emailed to myself?"

Privacy protection and browse anonymous (hide your real IP address) can be done with web proxy that unblocks any site any pass any firewall filters: <a class="user" href="http://securedbrowser.info" rel="nofollow">http://securedbrowser.info</a>
