wired.com — The first step is to pick a video game system to give your undying allegiance. Once you've picked your system -- and don't take too long choosing, you're going to be equally irrational no matter what you pick -- you're ready to hit the boards. Here are some simple rules to ensure that you live up to the fanboy ideal...

"Who the hell gives a s**t?!?! By next fall LIVE will have it all and more subscribers than Sony will be able to touch.Stupid Sony fanboys."Spoken like a true hardcore fanboy.Seriously. It's news because Sony is one of the current "Big Three", and because many people, from people who watch tech markets to people who play games, like to keep up with the Big Three. This isn't a war, dude. Neither 360 or Sony is going to "Win", obliterating the other and taking slaves and booty from the ruined cities of the devastated enemy. The market, as you can see if you look back through history, can support three different consoles. And some people are interested in news related to all three. Especially three good ones like the current batch. I can think of some that got beat down, but those were weak consoles at the time, with weak companies with weak leadership: Atari Jaguar. Dreamcast. (seriously, Genesis was the only competitive system Sega ever produced. Even the Master System was a near-flop). The Panasonic 3DO. The SNK Neo-Geo. Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo are ALL viable and, barring unforseeable disasters, they will be for years. People who follow news are not "stupid sony fanboys" any more than someone who reads Car & Driver and Motor Trend to keep up with ALL the players in that indusry. VG consoles and operating systems and automakers are not religions. So lighten up and quit acting like a fanboy!

The hilarious thing is that this article applies dead-on to the way most people approach religion.

@lensman00Yup I remember back in the genesis snes area my friends and myself would base what system we were buying over which system fewer people had, we'd then routinely swap systems on weekends so we could all enjoy the offerings of both without having to buy both consoles.Never understood fanboyism, A game is either good or bad, the system the game runs on doesn't change that.

You're somewhat right, but there's a limit to the peoples PR bulls**t intake and Sony has gone well past that limit. Also DVD9 being enough for the next 5 years.. you forget that they can always span onto multiple discs like Sony did with CDs on the PSX. Games are spanned out over longer amounts of time than movies are, so it's really not a problem or hassle to use a different disc half way though the game.I think it's better to have the speed and proven compentency of DVD than to force out a proprietary new technology (BluRay) that hasn't been proven and is in it's early (and slow, and expensive) stages. I used to be pro-blu ray but once I saw the price tag, the delays it caused, the problems it's suffered, and now that games are being installed to the HDD of the PS3 and that other have duplicate data all over the disc to lessen the load & search times of the laser.. well.. I think it makes sense to hold back and stick to DVD. I mean DVD isn't even standard for PC games yet. Please don't call fanboy on me though: I love the wii, n64, nes, snes, I loved my PS2s while they worked, the PSP is cool (tho I don't think it's worth the money for someone like myself), but I am very very skeptical about the PS3. I was never a gamecube or PSX person either.
