robservatory.com — New Disney DVDs include a thoughtful new feature: "Fast Play". The film (and "a selection of bonus features") will begin playing automatically unless you hit the menu button. But is this actually the fastest way to start the movie? (Hint: it takes more than 7 minutes to reach the opening credits of the feature film using Fast Play.)

Just for those of you keeping count, the word 'crap'/'crappy' was just used 7 times in this thread.Time to expand our vocabularies, perhaps

Commercial skip has already been taken away from us in a way. ReplayTV used to have a feature that would autmatically skip comercials, but they were pressured to stop making this feature.

"Song of the South"? Not likely! It's a shame because not only is that movie NOT racist, it's a real gem that shows us stories that were brought to America from Africa by slaves and handed down from generation to generation. I thought preserving black culture was a good thing. Boy, am I dumb. The latest release of the old Warner Brothers cartoons for _each_ DVD of the set has a 5 minute speech in which Whoopie Goldberg (who has TONS of moral authority in my book.... NOT!) tells us that while these cartoons are funny, the creators were evil, racist Nazi bastards (OK, maybe not in those words, but the sentiment is there). The funny thing is, even trying to consider them from a PC point of view, I can't find anything that would be considered racist in those cartoons. I know cartoons like that were made with negative stereotypes of blacks, etc, but I certainly don't need some foul-mouthed, unfunny, arrogant comedienne brow-beating me every time my kids or I want to watch Bugs Bunny. You can't skip it, but at least you can fast forward through it.

Disney DVDs are the worst when it comes to several stupid previews before the film. I hate buying Disney DVDs and avoid doing so at all costs.

My method is easier. I rent the movie and rip it to a DVD-R without all the useless s**t. When corporations stop preventing me from skipping the ads and warnings legally (like I used to be able to do), I'll stop pirating their product. Until then, they can blow me.Note that this doesn't apply to Disney, because Disney sucks. Our son is growing up in a mostly commercialism-free world thanks to our decision to ban Disney products from the house.

Now if I could only get my 2 year old to:Turn on the tv. Set it to video 2.Turn on the receiver. Hit the DVD button on the remote, or scroll the input on the face.Turn on the crappy switch box, and make sure the DVD button is pushed.Turn on the DVD player, hit the open button, and put in the disk.Crap, my wife & mother-in-law have chosen not to learn how to do this. I've even put togehter a step-by-step guide with freaking pictures! But I'm sure my 2 year old will have figured it out by 4!

My god, at least someone else knows my pain.I work in the Electronics department at a retail store. Every time a Disney movie comes out, I dread putting it in because it's more work for me! It's not convenient! It's INconvenient, Disney! WTF?Look at the Harry Potter movie that just came out. I put it in, it started the movie right up. Then when the movie was over and it got back to the menu, wait a few minutes and.. get ready.. it starts all over again! It loops! It is very Retail-friendly. Why can't every goddamn f**king DVD creator take a page from Warner Bros and MAKE YOUR DVD'S LOOP THE MOVIE OVER AND OVER! Help us poor retail souls out who have to run to the DVD player in the back every 2 hours and start it over again.
