politechbot.com— And the movie industry is wondering why people are no longer spending as much on going to the movies and buying the overpriced popcorn as they used to.

The reason Sam's Club and Costco can check you is because you agree to it when you sign up to use their service. Same with libraries and similar places. When you sign up to use their service you agree to be searched.
By wanting to see the movie, a movie which you pay for or see for free, you are agreeing to the policies of the theater. If the policy of the theater is to have your bag checked when entering a screening of an unreleased movie, then your bag will be checked. If this is not agreeable to you then then bag can wait out side or you can take your bag and go home. That is they way it works. Same with stores. If you do not agree with the bag searching policies of Fry's electronics, go somewhere else. By entering the store, you agree to their policies and can therefore be subjected to the execution of said policies. That is why they should ask to search your bag. If they just start searching through without permission, then yes that may be unacceptable. If you are unaware of their policy as many people are, by asking to search your belongings they are in-effect informing you of a policy that you must accept to enter the premises. For those that are unaware, policies are similar to a country's laws. They are rules that should be followed and enforced. If you commit a murder and claim that you don't believe murder applies to you, there should not be a single rational thinking person alive that would give you a pardon and say, 'Well now that you know it does, don't let it happen again.' In fact you will likely go to jail and get to have fun with all that. There are plenty of laws that I do not agree with and had no say when they were created. As a citizen you petition law makers to change the law or you abide by the law. As a consumer you can write the company and ask them to change their policy. Good luck with that. Alternatively you vote against them by leaving the store and going to a competitor. You do not have the right as an American, Canadian, Australian, etc., to do whatever the f**k you please. The world is not like that. If you think you do have this right, do everyone a favor and remove yourself from society, become a recluse and never speak again.
adodikan:Hmm, must be a republican. No rights. State Rules. Bag Searches at every checkpoint. Deal with it. Wow adodkin, you must be a fun guy to hang out with! Lets party sometime!
seriously though. Who the f**k would wanna watch a movie from a video phone??? thats worse than a freakin psp tryin to watch video....This is why I'm saving to build my own house with my own movie theater and conssesions in it. :P

I've been to a few of these preview movies here in Toronto also and the ticket always says you have to submit to a search. Also, I've never been to one that actually did the search or had any cameras. Plus, he didn't mention if the the movie was good or not. ;)
The thing that pisses me off the most is you're not allowed to bring in your own refreshments. If you want something to eat and drink, you have to drain your wallet with the purchase of drinks and popcorn that costs them MAYBE 50 cents and they charge you $8!
to those who think that the quality of the theater experience has declined....no one who works at a theater, save for the manager perhaps, makes good money. Everyone at my theater, including me, makes minimum wage. And I'm a projectionist. Do I really care if the movie is out of focus? Not for $5.15 an hour..so blame the theater chain for the poor movie experience. They should pay better:)And I go to a movie based on its trailers. Saves me an assload of time.
So, I suppose a lot of you ignored the fact that this was a screening? Not a regular showing of a movie in the neighborhood theater? Hmmm... Because I don't get this kind of treatment at the local theater here.Plus. It's a screening. Ever heard of camcorders in theaters? Nobody watched that Seinfeld episode? Nobody here was born before the many references in media to sidewalk black markets for VHSes where the quality was poor because the video was taped with a camcorder in a movie theater. This still goes on. I don't know why people want to buy these pirate videos.SO EVERYBODY MISSED THE FACT IT WAS A SCREENING? DOES EVERYBODY KNOW WHAT A SCREENING IS? NO? That's my question.
