lifeintech.com— An in-depth look on how the underdog Nintendo DS has outsold Sony's PSP, despite the latter's superior capabilities.

i fail to see how the DS is beeing the underdog.after all, nintendo owns the handheld console market for about 15 years with gb, gbc, gba, gbsp and gbmini. they recycled many of their stationary console games on their handhelds, let them interact with their consoles (gamecube -> zelda 4swords, ff:cc).how this can be "underdog" i will never understand ...well, maybe its just another sony bashing article ...
I bought a DS Lite. And I did so for one reason, and one reason alone - New Super Mario Brothers. Since then I've bought Brain Age and Big Brain Academy. Other than that, there hasn't been all that much that I consider compelling enough to buy for it. I'm sure more stuff will come out, though. The next Zelda game looks good. And I plan on getting a PSP, too. But I can't justify it yet because there isn't that killer app yet. That seems about to change, though. I'll definitely be picking one up when the Silent Hill and/or MGS game(s) come out. And that pretty much sums up how and why I buy systems. The games. Which is as it should be.
The ds is sweet and the psp is awsome 2 the major ground breaking game for the ds was of course Mario kart ds, and I think the psp ground breaking game was Gta Liberity city stories but, i have to favor more towards the ds because the inovative duel screen touch screen come on its flipin sweet, but the wii is where its at thats how its gonna beat the ps3 Nintendo allways makes somthing innovative and new about its system sony however does not just better grapics and gameplay, ill be waiting outside Gamestop to play with my wii!
I would say that the DS is superior in what it is supposed to be, a handheld gaming device. People prior to me have commented on the fact that videos need to be re-encoded to play on the PSP, music is almost out of the question due to the size of the PSP, the games themselves have load times, save times, and when it comes to portable gaming, time is of the essence. I'm playing on my PSP, I get interrupted, I have to save it. That takes a little bit more time then I need. On the DS, saving is almost instant. So, maybe I'm biased, but I have both systems, and one gets used a lot more. Battery power, games library, and a friendly handheld environment that makes gaming on the go easy. Chalk one up for the DS.

I'd say power consumption. Solid state devices use less power, and on top of that, make the device more sturdy.
