I've just replaced my 3G battery for the first time. Not bad after 2 or so years. I was down to 2.5 hours of play time, but more importantly it didn't last overnight. I've just replaced it with an 850mAh one - I now get 1 hour on, one night "off" plus another 7 hours. It cost me $35US and if that gives me another 2 years of life - it's cheap,

On behalf of the 95% of us who have had no problems:I'm coming up on two years with my 3G and the battery's as good as it ever was. Keep your iPod plugged-in whenever you're not using it and the battery will last four^h^h^h^h for years.

"does rockbox replace the ipod's firmware, or does it let you dual boot like podzilla does?"I don't think its possible to replace the ipods firmware unless you have a rockbox installer that removes the ipod firmware wich would be bad. Rockbox does let you dualboot like podzilla but you need iPodLoader to load rockbox. (i think.. so don't take my word for it cuz i could be wrong)Once you have iPodLoader installing Rockbox on it is one of the easyest things you will ever do in your life (drag and drop) not only is rockbox easyer to install than linux, its also more manuverable the only downfall of its manuverability is the fact that it'll be confusing as hell knowing how to use it for the first time but once you've mastered rockbox then you wont ever boot into ipodlinux or Apple's Firmware ever again.

you can get the batteries replaced though but honestly, you might as well fetch up the extra $100 for a new model
