news.cnet.com — General Motors at its centennial celebration in Detroit on Tuesday is expected to showcase the Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid electric car that carries the heavy expectations of reversing GM's slide and slashing consumers' fuel use. Buzz around the Volt picked up last week when photos of the production car were captured, showing a less sporty...

"there's not an actual plan of what to do with these batteries when they actually die. "Bulls**t. The batteries can be nearly 100% recycled. Look at what Tesla is doing: http://www.teslamotors.com/blog4/?p=66

You certainly aren't a troll. Here is the Wikipedia article on the platform we are talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_E-Flex_platform It is an awesome hybrid which uses very little gas! It does that by _not_ charging the battery with the engine. The car can go 40 miles on just the battery after it's charged at your house. That's 40 miles at _any_ speed. Unlike the Prius which turns on it's gas engine above 25 mph or so.So if you drive less then 40 miles a day and plug the car in at night. You will use _no_ gas. That is an awesome hybrid! The next feature is the on-board engine. It acts as an electric generator only. There is no transmission. The generator allows for long trips. This eliminates the typical failing of electric cars. That you have to "wait" for the battery to charge. The Volt "can" run on gas, but it tries to get the most out of cheaper house hold electricity.

22 year old car eh? Do you just pray every day you won't crash? Do you realize you won't live through any serious collision in a car with 22 year old safety equipment?

I can't believe how many people just don't get it:"Only 40 miles on the battery??""Only 35-ish mpg if you run through all the gas??""No one would ever pay a premium for a green car?!"Oy.

How far do they say it goes on the battery? Forty miles? As if! Once you turn on the lights, the a/c or heat, and the stereo, that'll go down to 25 miles on the battery. This is a lot of whoopla to save a gallon of gas/day.
