news.cnet.com — Apple says its new notebooks are among the greenest in the industry. Environmental experts are pleased, but still have questions about how recyclable they are and how much their production and use impact greenhouse gas emissions.

My sentiments exactly. Anyone who reads digg knows they would never throw any old tech away, they'd just be resourceful and find another use for it.Hell, the other article on the frontpage right now is about lightweight linux distros that run comfortably on a Pentium 75. On that basis, no-one will be throwing away these laptops till at least 2020.

if apple starts making products that are upgradable, people wouldnt be throwing out their old garbage ipods with dead batteries.scalability and upgradability is what makes things last, apple has neither in any of their products.

Funny how Apple claims to be greener when they made the iPod shuffle, nano and touch packaging smaller to help reduce their carbon footprint during shipping, but changed the packaging to a completely non bio-degradable plastic box - filling up the landfills even more.

That's right... Let's not worry about the hundreds of greedy, heartless corporations that pour s**tloads of toxic chemicals into the environment every single day. Let's get on Apple's case because they aren't "perfect" yet! Unbelievable!!!

You've made my point for me. All the professions you listed produce...fluff. And all those college students, they will have to learn how to use a PC the instant they get a job in the real world and have to use the company issued machine. ps, who are all these teachers that use macs? Private school instructors? Public schools get their computers from the state and who do state governments make high volume computer purchases from? Dell, HP, etc...
