Nearly 14 years and this is all we can do? Pretty pathetic. Where are the revolutionaries, nowadays?! We need to stop trying to make ICs smaller, and start thinking outside the shiny silver box.
This is actually an absurd comparison. The two devices being compared were designed for completely differnet purposes. The Newton was envisaged to be a kind of digital notepad. Yes it had calendar and organizer functions, but its primary function was that of a digital notepad (thats why it was called the Message Pad). Due to this function, it had a very large screen. You will notice that the Newtons screen is about four times the size of the iPhone screen. The Newtons hand writing recognition was phenominal. There is no handheld device in existance even today that can match the Newtons handwriting recognition abilities. The iPhone lacks handwriting recognition altogether. Anyway, the point is that since the iPhone lacks the Newtons core functionality (and vice versa), the two devices can't be compared.

I have a newton. 14 years old, and it was still impressing people at my school.
