acegi: I lived in Europe for a number of years. I'm thoroughly familiar with everyday use of the metric system. And NO English-speaker I have ever met outside the U.S. uses "kilo" to refer to anything but kilogram. Kilometers, in English, are most often shortened to "klicks."
