TriplePlay - I started in Fall of 90, and in that year the ratio was closer to 4-1. By the time I graduated in Dec 94 it had gotten closer to 2-1. However, I still saw almost no girls outside of the first-year classes. Since a lot of other majors require a programming class or two, they may not have all been CS majors. Also, I heard from another Tech student that they recently added a degree that's like "CS without the programming", and I've read about things like that being done to attract more girls to CS.YesImAChick - I laughed out loud at that one. Maybe if they replace the soda machine with a weight room and add tanning booths for taking cat-naps in right next to the computer labs, the problem would solve itself. Then again, maybe not. My wife seems to think you need to be slightly autistic to enjoy programming. The term she prefers to use for me is idiot-savant. ;-)
I disagree wholeheartedly. I have met a hundred people who said they knew how to write CSS. About 10% do it well. About 1% are masters at it. And CSS is fairly simple compared to the others listed.Just because you can hammer nails doesn't make you a carpenter... or for that matter a structural engineer.Somebody that lists they know everything in a long list of various languages is usually at best only mediocre at those languages. A jack of all trades and a master of none. For my work, I would rather see a guy tell me he is great at PHP, CSS and XHTML and is only beginning to learn some .NET stuff. I would give that guy much greater consideration than the guy who thinks he knows it all.
Man, this comes with time, that's the thing. Add RSX-11 to the list and that would be pretty much what I was doing for the last 19 years. I don't put non-relevant stuff on the resume of course because people don't believe, some even didn't live that long.
