I've always appreciated HOWTOs that are straight to the point and gets the job done. I'm sorry but it's hard to read those articles that are too "chummy" and are peppered with things that distract the reader. Authors are free to apply their own style just like in any kind of writing. However, when you need help and you just want to finish the task at hand, a clean and straightforward document is preferable instead of reading through something like, "Okay dudes, before we set-up the RAID array, make sure you have your pizza and diet coke beside you."
