lifehack.org — The hardest part of socializing, for many people, is initiating conversation. However, it is a big mistake to go about life not making the first move and waiting for someone else to do it [in conversation or anything].

Tip for people going to/organising parties:Have a focal point other than socialising e.g. a pool table, table tennis, an activity of some kind. This is so that conversations aren't all there is therefore there will be less pressure to talk. Less pressure to maintain conversations = more, better conversations. This is why smokers can talk easier. There are no uncomfortable silences as while not talking you are legitimately doing something else (smoking).Sorry if this post is a bit Captain Obvious, but I see it done often.

What I've actually found out, is that it's not only necessary for the people to quit being shy, nobody wants to listen to what assh**es have to say (as rarson said), first step is to try to become a better person, maybe at least one more socially acceptable; overcome rudeness, self-centering, impatience, etc AND THEN, overcome shyness.

Somewhat unrelated to the conversation (oh, irony :P ) but whats the deal with commenting like "Dugg you up/down for [whatever reason]"? It may worth it sometimes (like "Dugg up for [some non-evident movie reference|subtle joke]"), but often its not.
