"Don't install too many application" .... huh? Doesn't he really mean "Don't RUN too many applications"? I've got 272 apps "installed" in my Mac but just because they are all sitting there in my apps folder doesn't affect the speed of the computer in any way. I agree with most everyone about this article...no digg.
Come on now, i've already been doing that for awile. Restarting once a month is the best advice, actually. And I thought it was common sense that you had to leave some free space on your hard drive. Common sense!
This is mostly common sense, but two points I must make: 1) If you run your system with very little free memory on the HD, even briefly, when Photoshop creates a giant temp file, it will corrupt your system and you'll need to reinstall. I am in the middle of this pain-in-the-ass process.2) From what I've been told by Apple techs, the OS automatically defrags, so there is no need to run defrag utilities after the fact. Also a reason why Macs continue to perform similarly to their install speed months and even years after the last install/reinstall
