pchowtos.co.uk— This has got to be the most comprehensive, well thought out guide to building a PC. It covers everything from buying parts, to the finished product, with extreme detail.

SATA drives have higher *potential* bandwidth, but a single 7200rpm drive won't even user all of PATA's. However, two drives on a single PATA IDE channel will suffer, especially if you're copying directly from one to the other--in cases like that, SATA is definitely better.
I think it's best to use a trial and fail method. A guide can never really inform you about those little things you have to watch out for. Plus today's OS's and the implementation of plug and play make building a rig fairly easy. Unlike the pre windows 95 days with irq assignments and what not.

When I join the board I contributed to the board. People get mad over my Signature. It’s like you have your period. You’re a bunch of jerks
