sciencedaily.com — In 1911 the discovery that the world was billions of years old changed our view of the world for ever. By the end of the 19th century, many geologists still believed the age of the Earth to be a few thousand years old, as indicated by the Bible, while others considered it to be around 100 million years old.

And that little thing in the corner of your eye? That was once a third eyelid like the one cats have. And guess what your tail bone once was. But yeah I know, you've got your book of fairy tales and that trumps everything.

I'm a christian and I can deal with the fact that the earth is billions of years old. One such proof is that there are stars the are hundreds of thousands of light years away, but we can see them. Not all people who believe in the Bible think that the entire universe started 6,000 years ago, because the Bible doesn't even say that

You got it backward. Theory is the atheist's god.

This is where I get the 8,000ish feet - the tower of Babylon (yes, I've read much of the Bible). God was worried that if man were able to reach the heavens that "nothing would be impossible for them" - i.e. they would become gods themselves. This is why he scattered people around the globe and confused our language, so we would not be able to work together to become gods. Note that the first half or so of the OT does not say there is only 1 god, it says that God is jealous and angry if you worship another. Considering how thin the oxygen is in the air at 8,000+ feet it is not realistic for men to carry materials that high or perform the labor required to work on the tower. The only real mention of someone ascending to heaven in the OT is Elijah sucked into a whirlwind. And exactly how high can a whirlwind go?Try reading ALL of the Bible, not just the parts that support your existing viewpoints.

Excuse me, but no geologist will ever say that the Earth is a few thousand years old.
