tech- Farmers do not have a say in what they get in the commodity market. The only recourse they have is to hold the grain/animals and hope that price goes up. Or they can play the futures themselves, but most don't have the funds/expertise to do so. Commodities traders seldom ever take possession of the commodity. So, your first sale doctrine doesn't hold water.

Thanks, good to know there is reason out there. What bothers me is how they digg you down without ever replying. It's not like I'm making an emotionally based LEFTISTS SUCK! type comment, I'm using reason. Just digging the comment down without providing a response seems like choosing to live in ignorance. It's like saying, "I don't like your reasoning, even if you're correct or I can't find nothing wrong with it." Drives me crazy.

Big companies, big oil, etc.etc.etc. When you really get down to brass tacks right before my eyes I watched many, many regular ordinary folks get caught up into the real estate frenzy when things were cooking. Any these many, many ordinary folks got caught holding the bag when things turned around. Nothing but a greed factor that has always been and always will be. But we just can't get away from blaming everyone around us!! It is always someone else or the other guy.

The house buyers "took delivery." They did not buy "house futures" which they were forced to roll over (sell) before the delivery date. Because they took delivery on the houses, the housing glut did not become apparent until the buyers were unable to pay the mortgages. Believe me, there is no oil glut. The two situations could hardly be more different.During the tech boom, there was a vast number of shares to be had. People who bought them took delivery. They did not buy dot-com futures.

You have just described how a "long" speculator can pay too much for a futures contract and OPEC (or more likely, another speculator) takes advantage. Now tell me how the long spec gets out of his predicament without losing money.
