If his wheel didn't bend to all hell, he would of either smashed his face on his bars, or broke his wrists. I've seen it happen multiple times off of big drops.
All the people saying the guy's an idiot and deserved it completely miss the point. When you push yourself to the limits and it goes wrong you have no one to blame but yourself. The fact that you're taking you life into your hands is part of the challenge. This guy knew the risks of what he was doing and won't be suing anyone, unlike the blame culture that seems to exist these days. Through skateboarding I learn skills that I use to this day. You don't learn anything where you know you can succeed, you learn things when you're not sure. Pushing yourself and learning what you're really capable of is as relevant in your professional life as it is when you're throwing yourself down some stairs. A few broken bones and teeth along the way were a price I was willing to pay for the lessons and satisfaction I gained.Regarding whether medical attention should be withheld when you inflict something upon yourself, would you rather the kid ended up having a heart attack 30 years down the line from sitting on his arse all day or damaged his health himself through drink or drugs? We all make choices that eventually have consequences. Assigning blame over treating those in need is a very slippery slope.
