wired.com — Given NASA's politicization, we should hope that the space industry evolves as aviation did ? transitioning from ponderous government-run projects to mostly private-sector activities attuned to customer needs.

Is it possible for NASA to restore itself to it's former glory? The private sector is being innovative and radical, they are the ones coming up with the new ideas. NASA is supposed to be developing ideas and letting the private sector figure out how to use them.

Hopefully a new space race with China will help push NASA out of the doldrums. Also, most of the private sector innovation seem to be geared towards getting people (i.e. tourists) into space. We still need NASA to do a lot of the basic space research that we've grown accustomed to.

Aviation began as "ponderous government-run projects to mostly private-sector activities attuned to customer needs"? What government was Orville and Wilbur working for?

@alphaetaa space race is not what the country needs. nasa funding was signifigantly cut near the end of the last space race. space would benefit much more from steady funding and cooperation between countries.
