Every year or so a new study comes out telling us how many hours a healthy adult sleeps every night. That number goes down with every study. I smell a big fat stinky rat.
Well, of course, we had it tough. We used to 'ave to get up out of shoebox at twelve o'clock at night and lick road clean wit' tongue. We had two bits of cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at mill for sixpence every four years, and when we got home our Dad would slice us in two wit' bread knife.
I think it worked by blocking the neuron acceptors that tell your body you're tired. Your body would eventually wear down if you didn't get any sleep, but you could go for extended periods of time without it.
