mashable.com — Recently, Apple proudly strutted its feathers, pointing at the one billion iPhone free and paid apps users have installed on their little bundles of electronic joy. Now, the folks at LSVP have done the math and calculated how much revenue, approximately, did that billion generate.Short version: not that much.

The apps are a selling point for more iphones, even it if was costing them money it would still probably make it up in additional iphone sales. Talked with a couple people who were deciding with blackberry VS iphone, and ultimately they went with iphone for the apps. I almost bought one just for the boob giggle app.

You do realize that in fact, it's the opposite with sony? They're taking losses on hardware, and making profit on licensing the games.... Oh well, everyone is allowed their ignorance

RE: " ... This article is spectacularly redundant. It's merely confirming exactly Apple's stated intentions and how it's all gone exactly to plan."True, and it's amazing how many have suddenly "clicked" to a plan that Apple has had in place ever since they opened up their iTunes store, and their Apple stores...Apple has always sold the software (and music) at minimal profits, since Apple's main focus is all about selling hardware.iTunes runs at very low margins, just to sell iPods.Apple's Apps store runs at very low margins just to sell iPhones. It's hard to imagine anyone NOT being able to see the obvious strategy Apple has followed since they first built the Apple I kit computer...

@ Daimwn, you really should look up the meaning of big words like "monopoly" so you don't look like an idiot when you use them...

OK i just want to make these points clear:#1 Apple commented in one of there recent keynotes, that they are a "mobile devices company", seeing as they make laptops, phones and mp3 players (excluding there iMacs which are there least "used/owned/sold/made" item)#2 Can people stop arguing on how if youre computer crashes you loose youre library on itunes. You CAN get it back by redownloading the stuff or by talking to apple about it#3 Apple does not try to make money off apps. Yes they are a ploy to make money of the iphone but they are also a way to make day to day life easier (the same as most companies which want money and a way to make day to day stuff easier... i think :P).#4 This is my most important point. No one has thought about the fact that if apple did take labour of these app makers what about Microsoft. Bill Gates licensed the P.C. and got all the other companies like Dell and IBM to make new versions of his computer system, while he makes the profit. Apple works by itself and people are saying they are bad for making some money of people they gave jobs to?come on that is just not right.P.S. watch the developer conferences on keynote podcast and you will notice all the developers think that it is fair that apple takes 40% of the profit (or at least dont seem to at all).
