SillyRabbits is almost certainly from the east coast, southern California, etc. The severely inflated economies of those areas would insure that there would be almost nobody that can 'live a decent life' on $40K/year.Of course, if that's what I did for a living, I would almost certainly live somewhere with a very poor economy, allowing me to live a very luxurious life on that much money - let's face it, if you blog for a living, you can blog from anywhere that you can connect - including places where $40K is a lot.
I was employed by a large OSP in a community capacity in 1999, and have worked within that sphere of New Media since then. Prior to that I was a very active community user, and online since '95. Like I said Social Media and Community Management - not really two different things, one is seen as hip and trendy now :)
If the writing delivers substantial readership and a loyal following, then it should be elevated into the realm of SEO specialists. In fact, blogging makes the job of SEO infinitely easier! I think this is a new medium, one that hasn't achieved the recognition it deserves. All in good time...
