blogs.howtogeek.com — We all think Apple products are a little overpriced, but hey, you’re paying for the brand, quality and the tight integration. But considering you can install plain old vanilla OS X on a PC with similar hardware to the Mac, how much are you paying premium just for the Apple logo?

Griz, the 2.5Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo is included in the Dell price, you can select that minor bump in processor speed as an option, which I did. Also included is the upgrade to the built-in webcam (MBP comes with this standard). The Dell also comes with 4GB of RAM, double the MBP. 7200RPM drive instead of the MBP's 5400 and built-in EVDO mobile broadband (the MBP has none). However, Dell has increased the price to $1,649, so you only pay $850 more for the Apple logo now.

Thanks but I guess my pointing out that Apple is essentially using PC parts nowadays has angered a few people

@professorI think you are making my point though. You may not value those things, but I do. Mag safe has saved my laptop from my daughter a couple of times. I appreciate being able to open the lid on my laptop and have it ready in two seconds. Again, I appreciate being able to skip the click, click, click, finish and just drag the new app to the apps folder. And I find the simplicity of the interface more functional. It gets out of your way so you can do your work. The collection of these small things is what make a lot of us enjoy owning a Mac. If they aren't important to you, go ahead and get the Windows PC. And the collection of these things is what sets Macs apart from beige box PC's, and the reason a lot of people buy Macs.

How is it overrated? Apple computers aren't expensive because of parts, they are not even quality parts. They pretty much charge you on labor which they assemble in China. I ain't knocking China but I'd rather build a computer with parts I know will work and know that it works well. Although I must say I do love Apple cases. You my friend, are a retard.

really? 1000 bucks in repairs? that IS a ripoff. if my psu fries and takes my mobo, cpu, and graphics card with it it would still cost less than 1k to replace. were talking a 600w psu, a abit ip35 pro, a q6660, and a 640mb evga 8800 gts.

Welcome to the wonderful world of OEMs, where parts are obscenely expensive no matter who they're from.

Processor: $106 for E5200.Monitor: You can get the new 8000:1 version for $190 on sale this week. RAM: $30 for 2GB.Bluetooth: They only cost around $20 for new 100m versions. Probably some more overpriced stuff you picked but I'm not going to go through your whole list.Of course, if you build the exact computer with outdated components and outdated NCIX prices, you'll only save $180. But if you pick your components properly (ex. picking faster and cheaper CPU over same CPU), you are saving way more than that $180 and you'll end up with better specs.
