There are so many jobs where people don't have health insurance covered, they can very easily accumulate bills beyond their ability to pay. And even when you do have health insurance, there can be many things that aren't covered.

I really hope that the new healthcare reform laws will help to prevent things like this from happening. I'm sure that those who end up with piles of medical debt never intended to NOT repay them, but it's an unfortunate situation. I've known several people who have had to file for Minnesota Chapter 7 bankruptcy due to their incredibly high stack of medical bills.
