You're right, but you're missing the point. How many websites out there don't have interests in generating revenue, and instead focus on improving their userbase? I don't even want to count how many more countless hits a day YouTube gets because of digg. It's a great example of using Digg to not only generate traffic--and in turn loyal users--but also generating some semblance of an income as well.In my mind, if a website gets "dugg" then not only does it draw its target audience to its site, but also, out of the thousands that visit that site while on the homepage, it maintains some of that fleeting audience that digg brings with it. If some of that audience stays, well there you go, theres more income for the site.
The Digg effect killed my site in the first six hours... but then, I saw links to my site pop up everywhere on the net, and I now have a stable 200-300 visitors per day. So it was bad to start with, but is proving good ultimately. Just like a bitter medicine.
It's interesting to see some figures on this. As we publish a vast amount of articles, it's rare to find a day when we aren't dugg. This helps us to see what traffic Digg drives to us.
Bit depressing that it's so easy for an article with minimal content (the original "Current Trends in Web Design", that is, not this article) to get promoted to the front page and consequently bring a site so much traffic. Well, depressing or inspirational, I guess, depending on what your own aspirations are.

You get digitized only if you can generate "appeal" by content of by fraud.
