FTA: "The legislation covers programs for numerous Cabinet-level and other agencies, and takes the place of regular annual spending bills that did not pass last year as a result of a deadlock between the Bush administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress."This isn't emergency spending, it's a normal appropriations bill for the coming year. It is 8% more than the previous year's total.

Democrats complain they inherited this deficit. I guess they own it now (I won't bring up that congress has been controlled by the Democrats for 2 years now).

Geekee,You are right and Republicans were held accountable. More than 5 million stayed home in the 2008 election. Fiscal irresponsibility cuts both ways. Thus, Republicans need to come back to their core philosophy which is, minimum taxation, pro growth and minimum government interference in the economy.
