today.reuters.com — Whether is it jogging around the park, pumping iron or swimming, an hour of vigorous exercise a day can lower the risk of bowel cancer, a study said on Monday. Even cleaning the house, or two hours of less strenuous activity can make a difference, according to the study of more than 413,000 people in 10 European countries.

Not many details on the study... but correllation != causationYour typical person who averages an hour a day of exercise probably also eats a healthier diet vs. the potato-chip munching couch potato. And diet is more likely the important factor here.

He has a point. Who has an hour to spare every day? If I exercised an hour every day, I'd get 4 hours of sleep instead of 5.People who exercise an hour a day obviously don't work enough. Or wait...

I prefer a latte enema.

It makes sense. Colon cancer is caused by toxic byproducts of digestion remaining in the colon too long. Peristalsis is enhanced by overall fitness, reducing the toxicity of the colon. Eating enough fibrous food is not mentioned in the article, but it is even more important to effective peristalsis than exercising.

He?s right about the coffee enema. It dilates the portal vein which carries blood from the colon to the liver, and can result in a short term ?cleansing? of the colon. Don?t do it if you have portal hypertension, or ascites though. A fat pipe to a liver which can?t handle the extra load is pointless, and may even be harmful.
