Gallery is good, but kinda slow and bloated. I use <a class="user" href="http://www.zenphoto.org/">http://www.zenphoto.org/</a> - pretty much all the feature you need are there, but it's basically all you ever need for most scenarios.

The best way to integrate Wordpress with Gallery2 is with WPG2 (now called gallery embedded, I think). Another compliment for remote. It's the reason I use Gallery over all other photo gallery programs. (Well, that and shared installs that mean I only have to keep one codebase up to date.)

I had problems with applying descriptions to several images at a time.I wanted it done before or during upload, I didn't trust users to go in after the upload and apply the tags via the gallery interface. And having thousands of pics is useless without a way to search them.So we found you can right click on multiple photos in explorer, and enter in keywords in the exif data. Gallery2 will search those fields when someone submits a search.just thought I'd share that, cause it was a major hindrance to us till we found that solution.

My experience with Gallery2 is great, I?ve installed in my own site and worked fine for a long time. I?ve installed it in a company where I work so they have an internal picture database, with search functions and all. It?s really useful.The only little problem I found is that it doesn?t install in all hostings, couse it has a lot of requeriments of php settings. In other case, Coppermine Photo Gallery installed in every place i tryed it, but I don?t like the interface as I do with Gallery2.

My host is dreamhost, and they have one click installs for Gallery2. It makes it extremely simple to set up and use. Gallery2 is great for regular people who just want to host their own photo gallery, and it is pretty easy to customize as well, with plenty of advanced options.

...except the apt-get install is bugged.If you have MySQL already installed, it wants to install PostgreSQL as well.
