forums.bit-tech.net — This guide is to illustrate how to make your own "Knob", very similar to the Griffin Powermate. Take an old USB mouse, a VCR head, a little wiring and what do you get? A really cool computer peripheral.

I've had 3 powermates. 2 I still have: one for my desktop, one for my laptop. One I traded for a G3.That said, the Griffin Powermate is the single best peripheral I've ever bought for my computer. Ever. 'Nuff said.I really like this mod. It's given me so many ideas of different things to make.Project time!

I am still very confused. I don't know what it is. I have visited the official site, and read what they have to say about it. But it is still very vague. What I see is a round heavy object, connected to a USB cord that you can plug into your computer. Then it can magically do everything you ever wanted. How? Elaborate. Why does it have to be a knob? I need an answer that encompasses the shape as well. Why does it have to be external? Basically, what is it?

Its basically like a convenient wheel for people too lazy to use their mouse scroll wheel. It allows you to change the volume, scroll through files, and I think a manual fastfoward/rewind controller for precision when working with video and audio editing files. At least thats what I got from the Griffin website.

If it takes me 5 hours to build this and I can buy one for $34.00, that works out to paying myself $6.80 and hour. I hope I am worth more than that. cool mod and i did it in 45 min so if one costs $34.00 i guess it pays to be good at hacking stuff to hell

If a project this simple takes you five hours you are retarded. The point is it's simple, cheap, useful, and uses stuff that most people have lying around anyway!
