In all honesty, i used to beleive that for the most part, Americans are not what we are made out to be: Ignorant, racist, bigots, etc. But this presidential campaign and the fact that McCain/Palin have so many people on their side screaming racist things, supporters who simply dismiss science as wasteful and ople who actually believe in the "End of Days" has opened my eyes. Having grown up in California and Oregon, and being in the Navy (having been around the world), I used to think that Americans were better than that. The fact the McCain/Palin have more than 1:1,000,000 shot at becoming the next pres/vice-pres has really destroyed the good image I used to have for Americans in general. I dont know what would really happen, but I'm starting to think that the west coast should secede from the union. Let the bible belt ruin their own country with this crap.
It's so hard to express emotion and intent in written comments...*grrrr* I was also involved with various Charismatic churches when I was trying to "find myself" in my teens/early 20's. I went back to my roots, coverted to Judaism, got disgusted with my rat-race shul, and am now quietly happy with my relationship with Deity. My sincerest congratulations on finding your way back out!
I think it goes to show that man(kind) is a sucker for a beautiful face and a stupid empty brain. Republicans think we are all this way... women will vote for her because she's a female. Men will vote for her because she's beautiful. I suspect that Republicans are going to find out that we ain't all as stupid as you think we are, and men don't always vote with their gonads. And they will learn that * real* men know that *real* women can think, vote, dress nice, fish, hunt, shoot guns, kick ass, run a state and/or a country, and not lie like this fraud has done. Go away, Sarah. You make me so ashamed of my adopted state.
I was an undecided voter until McCain chose Palin as his running mate. Once I heard her views and realized how uneducated and religiously brainwashed she was...the choice was easy.
As far as I'm concerned, there's no difference between a projector for a specific projector vs the famous bridge to nowhere. Those people paid federal taxes as well.I'd rather see education funding like this be given to states in terms of block grants vs specific itemized code of law. If the federal government wants to help Illinois kids learn, write Illinois a blank check and let the state decide what it should be spent on.
I am a Republican but I also believe in the pursuit of learning. I love the sciences and beliefs like Palin's, while I defend her right to have them, is embarassing. Yes, I am an atheist, too!
