sashafriedenberg.com — My friend decided to email MacHeist “support” and ask for a discount, because he couldn't afford the bundle. So he sent an email politely asking for a discount and opting to send his student ID for verification. MacHeist responded by asking "Are you serious?"

They can't afford a further discount - it's already really heavily discounted. That's the point, remember? That's what makes it a good deal in the first place.

Oh dear... this is just sad. It's pretty much the best software deal out there, nearly $1000 worth for $39. It's basically a gift from these independent developers who will have spent thousands of hours perfecting these really top notch products, and what's more is the fact 25% is going to charity. I'd be ashamed to ask for a discount and I'm a cheapskate student, I paid that $80 in my currency in a flash. All I can say is thank you so much to the brilliant macheist team! :D

I'm a student and I'm shocked that this person is being so cheap. The comparison example isn't even fair - this bundle has a > 90% discount (and 25% of it goes to charity). If you were already getting a 90% discount on Brainjuice, getting it for $2.50, you wouldn't dare ask for a discount! (Or maybe you would... I don't know how tight fisted this one is...)I was HAPPY to hand over the $39 (well... $31 after the discounts I got through participating), especially when Espresso gets unlocked!

It was more a matter of courtesy. He was rather blunt and rude, and he could've easily just said no.Why not look at it like this: The developers are getting a fair deal (publicity and future customers) as is MacHeist (profit). From this point of view, the value of the discount is negligible because it is a 'fair deal'. Unless it is an unfair deal, in which case MacHeist essentially raping the developers for profit, where the discount really is a discount. So help me set this straight, is the discount really a discount? Or is MacHeist exploiting these developers?@informationmage: I didn't divulge all the information of my circumstances. Specifically, I haven't mentioned our financial state, and for good reason.

So, what happened to the actual story? I'm getting a 404 error. To be clear, while it's not cool for MH to be rude in a support e-mail, but I would have asked if you were joking, too. I mean, a bundle worth double or more that of past bundles, for $10 less BEFORE an additional $8 discount, and you're STILL complaining?Honestly, this seems to be a case of trolling - this Sahsa guy claims he created wallpapers especially for Veronica Belmont - Veronica was a host of the MH launch show! Why not ask her?And then, there's the very minimum effort required to browse the MH forums and find the people giving away bundles to those in need. Not to mention the 15 or so bundles MH gave away directly.sheesh.

I apologize. I didn't realize how insane it was to ask for a discount. I also didn't fully think out what would happen if I complained about it. Sorry if I offended anyone. I only reacted the way I did because the MH representative was a bit blunt, but correct. I ended up taking down the post from my blog.
