techcrunch.com — The Associated Press went after Drudge Retort for having the audacity to link to their stories along with short quotations via reader submisisons. Drudge Report is doing nothing different than what Digg, TechMeme, Mixx and dozens of other sites do, and frankly the fact that they are being linked to should be considered a favor.

If the Associated Press is going to be hostile towards bloggers, bloggers should stop driving traffic to the Associated Press. Digg this to raise awareness about a petition to boycott the AP:http://digg.com/politics/Boycott_the_Associated_Pr ...

AP is not in need of boycotting. Now CNN & Fox, I'm on board.

even if it's a really, really, really good story? oh well. Screw AP if they can't figure out how the internet works. (the more links to your URL, the higher your URL ranks in Google). Seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot here.

Go to fox news. Find yourself a political article. Let's choose "Scott McClellan Tells House Panel CIA Leak 'Was Wrong,' Fends Off Critics". Is it from the AP? Yep. Is it anonymous? Yep. (Link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,369466,00.html ) Yes, I should be more proactive and do some statistical analysis of the text to back up my strong hunch. You have the blatant telltale signs like having white house press secretary statements in the article. Now what reporter says to them self, "I must not be very good at finding the facts, perhaps I should get the opinion of the White House press secretary, since they are such a wonderful source of information?" You do have a point that perhaps Fox only selects AP articles that quote white house press secretary statements, and it isn't as much the AP's fault. But I call shenanigans. If the AP wants to do real journalism just stop the practice of releasing un-attributed articles. Then at least a journalist has their reputation on the line.
