nbc11.com— An animal rights group releases an undercover video showing chickens at a major California egg farm being mistreated by workers and locked in cages so small they can't spread their wings.

In some countries, dogs and cats are treated as food stock, and personally, I see nothing wrong with that if that's their custom, but here, it's generally considered cruel and strange. I actually have chickens (real free range) that I do not eat. I know that they feel pain. I have seen it (when the neighbor's dog jumped the fence). But when you don't see the reality of the situation, you can't feel empathy because all you see is the packaged meat going from your grocery cart to your skillet. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing wrong with seeing chickens as alive, rather than just objects, either.
This is horribly sad and does make you think, however, I don't really have a problem with the slaughtering of animals, every meat eating creature on the planet exacts some amount of pain in the act of hunting. I would like to see more humane practices in the actual "storage" and transport of these animals.
I agree. I'm not into the whole "killing any animal is murder" group. I like meat and these kinds of things are just part of it. I am for going the extra mile to keep the animals at least comfortable before they're processed.
Chicken eggs have tons of cholesterol. Yes, they have some protein and vitamins and amino acids, but you can get all the good (in more digestible form) from veg sources without the chol. PLUS, the way chickens are treated is just plain RUDE! Especially if you believe that the same Creator who carefully engineered each individual animal, then gave it to you as a delicate, gentle pet, then has to watch you mistreat His creation and pull it apart and EAT IT! If my son did that with a gift I'd made him, I'd stop giving him stuff! Don't be rude - eat real food! Genesis 1:29 tells that we were designed to operate at maximum functionality on veg fuel. Don't put diesel in a gasoline engine ... don't put dead animals in a veg engine! I gave up meat stuff a year ago and got rid of my diabetes, high chol and BP, and dropped 30 pounds - just by eating the right fuel.
Free range meat is actually not more expensive. When you buy food from factory farms, you're not taking into account the ENVIRONMENTAL costs (American commercial farming methods basically rape the earth) and you're not taking into account the LIFE costs, not just of the animals so much as the poor agro-economic methods that contribute to the spread of world poverty.
Okay, I understand the concerns about disease, but what I don't agree with is the total hypocrisy of animal rights folks. Has anyone ever watched "Deadliest Catch"? have you ever seen the way they treat those crabs?!! They treat them like crap! Why doesn't anyone care?! I'll tell you why: they don't care because they're F-ING CRABS. They're not cute furry mammals, they're ugly crustaceans. And when the get dumped out of the crab pots their limbs get ripped off and then they're put down a little tube into the hold of the ship where there are crammed in with thousands of other crabs in the dark for days without food and all sorts of crazy bacteria im sure... the hypocrisy! Personally, i don't give a crap - they taste good, and i like to eat them (so long as it wont make me sick).
