I think that piracy has a real chance of destroying corporate America's stranglehold on music. It cuts into the profits of the major record labels, who for the most part put out s**t, and it gives exposure to independent artists. I buy a few CDs every month, and I would whether or not I could download music off of the internet. File sharing just gives me the luxury of deciding who really deserves my money. I choose the independent artist struggling to produce something new over the record company executive any day. The more people download music, the more it hurts the major record companies, the more it helps independent artists, the more it benefits music.
While I hate the RIAA as much as you guys do, I must ask a question.Do these petitions actually do anything outside of "How many people agree with my point of view"? Do they actually make an impact with stopping the RIAA?... or anything at all. I personally don't think these petitions do jack s**t. All congress will have to do with this petition is look at it and go.... "Oh wow. 100,000 people don't agree with the RIAA's methods...... oh well." then continue with what they were doing. Can you name one thing where online petitions actually changed anything, or made someone stop doing something?
as a canadian i can only wish you luck. but we need to get something going with the CRIA, some of the new laws being proposed are looking pretty bad for downloaders and the average consumer.
"The correct phrase should be RIAA/Sony/Time Warner. Don't let these guys off the hook."Um, BMI, RCA, UMG...just to name a few you forgot. But you got the right idea. Know what label an artist is on, and if its an RIAA label, don't listen to it. If you don't listen to it, you won't be inclined to buy (or even pirate) it. http://riaaradar.com

Hyuk HyukThey sue u'all using the money that you paid to listen to the crappy music. For every good song, there are two to three lousy songs in every CD. If people start buying selectively, the poor rich guys will be screwed. And they will not be able to sue you for infringements of their rights.

Here's a better list of RIAA Members:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RIAA_member_labelsJust boycott the Music Artists found herein. It's really quite simple.Eminem isn't quite as cool as he used to be, now is he?
