drphil.com — Dr. Phil recently blamed "Video Games" for the fatal rampage of Cho Seung Hui at Virginia Tech. Recent searches reveal that the gunman didn't even own any video games. Write the "know it all" Dr Phil and ask him to recant with the same pomp and exposure with which he falsely blamed Video Games. Ask him to try sticking to facts instead of ranting to

Hello Phil, I was quite upset by your comments about gaming the other day. Mass murders have been happening for a long time. This is not a new event. They occurred before games, before Hollywood and before western civilisation. Please do not contribute to moral panic and middle class paternalism.

Anyone else notice the pro-Dr. Phil sock-puppets running through and digging down everyone who disagrees with him?

"That student murderer didn't play any videogames. Why jump to that conclusion when you can hear about him in the news? He was just picked on & wanted revenge! Why are videogames the problem nowadays? It's because of judgemental qucks like you!"

I think it is time the Liberals start adding self defense classes in their learning centers, or maybe consider some weapons training curriculum. Put up a fight people don't just roll over and cry. Some people are jealous and crazy. We did not get to this point by being a bunch a wimps. Just a perfect example why gun free zones are pointless.Wake up America, some people want to see you die! Please try to do a better job of defending yourselves. I pray that we learn from this that we need to take some personal responsibility to protect ourselves and each other from the unexpected dangers in out world.

@misfit410Yes, stuff like this doesn't happen in KENNESAW,GA just like it hasn't happened.... hmm anywhere else but Blacksburg, VA, its kind of an isolated tragedy.that aside I do agree more guns = better.if there are some guns then the ppl who really want guns get them and use them because they really want to do things only a gun gives you the power to do.

Hey sam5271, I TOTALLY agree with you on your viewds too! We am on the same page... TOTALLY! I only wish that more Child Psychiatrists such as you would speak out on this matter and we could get some Strict Gun Control where only the Policemen carry Guns! And nhprm, you are Just Mean...

Candy? Lets see, I can walk into a store and purchase a pack of gum and walk out with it. Ok, Guns? I can walk into a store, pick the gun give my information including home address, job address and have them do a criminal background check. If I have a felony guess what...no gun, a history of mental illness, Guess what no gun. Now if I do pass it I still have to wait almost a month to actually get the gun.Hmm..not as easy as buy candy.Oh wait if I want to do it illegally, Lets see I find a dealer in a shady part of town , on a corner or in a crack den and buy it from him...Still not as easy as candy. You sir...need to brush up on American Gun Laws.

Video games (and general subconscious suggestion) can have a profound influence on a persons psychology and neurology workup. I think this is very true but it ends there. The fact of it is (and for the exact same reason why a person cannot do things he does not want to do whilst hypnotized) - violent video games don't make people violent however they do act as a trigger to already disturbed people- interestingly enough even in children from an early age when at the most susceptible to suggestion as most of the changes that occur in childhood occur for life - it has been shown by one of the most recognized charities for helping the disadvantaged and violent, the kids company, that most serious criminals are not brought about from the inclusion of hateful or evil imagery, but brought about from the lack of loving and caring imagery. i.e. it is easy to kill people if one knows not what goodwill or love is. The "Majority" of persons who is already aware of "love" and "goodwill" will still find it hard to commit to any evil or criminality because of the overwhelming guilt, understanding & compassion that person has, again with the criminal mind or sociopath, even with these abilities of overwhelming guilt and overwhelming intelligence, compassion etc are still brought to destructive ends - something that is not considered by majority normal - because of this dangerous and criminal people will be forever misunderstood. People make people violent, it is a conscious decision and this has been proven so many times. What is interesting in sociopaths there is something different happening in the conscious mind that somehow allows them to "escape" morality and generally anything they wish to "delude" themselves from. What will it take to convince the skeptics ? Criminal behaviour such as violent mass murder and shootings may be derived from video games (themes, etc) and may mimic multiple violent sub conscious memories from such violent memories and social exposure, they can even be triggered by it. However the similarity ends there; people have to be consciously capable of the disgusting and dangerous actions they mimic on a conscious level and exposure doesn't trigger a person who is non violent to be violent - only violent people are affected , or rather, incited. You would only suppress society trying to rid the world of all violent and emotional triggers. Triggers that only exist in `pre-determined` violent people. The irony is (as well demonstrated by the research carried out). These violent reactions do not necessarily need specific sub conscious triggering and a lot of the time it is a conscious trigger or decision (perhaps as in sociopathological behaviourism) It doesn't matter if you are exposed to violent imagery all your life it does not necessarily make the "experiencer" either capable or willing to be violent. The Key here I think is SUGGESTION , and we all know the power of suggestion can in fact be very strong, and video games can influence our thoughts, but they don't make us murderers. Dr Phil. I'm dyslexic, I'm labeled "stupid" but I assure you I have a mind of my own, just like everybody else and the most obvious thing in suggestion is not cause it is the trigger. You cannot blame a book anymore than a dust particle for setting off the same destructive bomb, they are equally responsible, whether it is to the tune of Shakespeare or to the grain of a spec of sand. To the criminally distraught & psychologically profound personality information is used in clearly very different ways, such as in the sociopath one of the most dangerous killers. There is no emotion, no care, it is of course the deluded mind. I put to all men that a deluded mind is very temperamental and it could just as easily be triggered by the wrong breakfast cereal or violent video games, the trigger is irrelevant when the cause is psychological. Even if some triggers can be more profound, they cannot be anticipated which is something that Dr Phil has also, both tried and failed to do.Apologies for my bad English :)AzioPS: I'm really sorry for the triple post :< I'm not sure what happened

It wasn't video games, it was all the caffeine loaded in soft drinks. Caffeine has some very evil effects on the body and worldwide is the #1 psychoactive drug consumed. Chug a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper and see if it doesn't make you go psycho. 95% of the caffeine in softdrinks isn't a byproduct from the coca put in them to flavor them, but is artificially added from caffeine that has been refined during the making of decafinated coffee. That's right, all that toxic caffeine they take out when making decafinated coffee, gets shadily injected in mega doses into making some of the most addictive softdrinks. Dr. Pepper, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mountain Dew.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=LNBGyf8FNEY
