latimes.com — Justin Long, the actor who plays the personification of the Macintosh computer in Apple's "Get a Mac" campaign, speaks to the LA Times about his new-found fame, his career as an actor, and the fact that he had never owned a computer prior to filming the advertisements. What computer does he now own? The answer....won't surprise you.

I dunno if I should feel sorry for him or not. I mean, is this a result of bad scripts or annoyingly bad acting?...or both? Hm...

I think the best thing would be for the linux persona to be a really geeky 10 year old with glasses that pulls out a really personal letter of the PC and Mac from behind his back and starts reading it. When the PC guy gets mad, then he holds up some sticks and starts making the PC and Mac move like marionettes.

He probably deserves at least a little of the crap he gets. Those commercials are a cheap attempt at getting more mac sales. They're appealing to people like him, who've never owned a computer before. At least he got payed to do it, if he didn't want all this attention for it, he should have thought about that before he signed up to do it. Apple is a huge company, and he should know that they're gonna run those commercials all the time. Here go's my rant about the commercials'Its ready to go right out of the box', 'were cool you're lame', 'i work flawlessly with lots of stuff and you don't'. Thats such a load of bull. First of all, most PC's people buy ARE ready to go right out of the box. The only ones that arent are ones made by people who actually want to customize their computers and deal with the assembly; I for one enjoy putting all the parts together.'we're cool pc's are lame and dull'. Compared to most PC's (like dells and hp's), apple's computers are majorly more stylish. But they can never beat the huge variety of cases, and case accessories you have available to buy, so long as you're putting the PC together yourself. All the wires in my tower are encased in metal tubing, and I have so many goddamn green lights I can't fall asleep in my room without turning them off. No way would I trade the sweet looks of my rig for the obligatory creamy white look of apple's stuff.'i work flawlessly with stuff and pc's require a lot of work'. For the most part, this is true. This is why Apple is better suited for the casual computer user. But its still just flat out wrong, its not always the case. If you're experienced with whatever OS you're running on a PC, such as windows or a linux variant, then you shouldn't have any problems running programs or connecting stuff to your computer. You may need to have to download drivers and s**t, but thats not usually a big deal, unless you're really not very computer savvy. As an avid PC user, and someone who once owned a mac, i was insulted by the commercials attempts to associate negative thoughts such as stupidity and boringness (they forgot to mention that barely any games work on a mac, hows THAT for boring) with PC's. In reality they are simply generalizing and stereotyping something that can vary in so many ways./rant

"Those commercials are a cheap attempt at getting more mac sales"I can't imagine them being cheap, and what else would they be if it weren't for attempts at selling macs? They're commercials. It's the same for every other product, be it toilet paper or washing powder or cars. If you care enough about the subject matter, and are willing to pick them apart, you can make the same sort of argument against any of them.Quick for-instance: a recent Ford advert compared the drive of the new Focus to being kissed by a beautiful woman. Could I sue for false advertising if I drove one and didn't feel that? I'm sure that many people have driven them and found them lacking. The difference is that very few people care enough about the product to the level required to cause them to actually rant about the advert.

I think you may have gone over board trying to refute a simple three sentence comment.Although its good to see that a fellow enthusiast has figured out how much easier life can be when you have a computer that does indeed just work.

It can open files saved with names that Windows cannot recognize. If you really worked in a graphic arts field I have a feeling you would use a Mac simply to cut down on wasting your clients time when it comes to opening and sharing files.
