huffingtonpost.com — This article points out the 10 steps necessary to close an open society, and it seems that with H.R. 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, the 9th step of Dissent = Treason is finally coming to fruition, with this new act labeling US citizens as terrorists if they have "an extremist belief."

People are opposed to corporate control because it's authoritarian in nature. And the politicians are authoritarian because they support this and continue this.As corporations gain more power, our government becomes more authoritarian. The people have fewer and fewer rights. This is exactly what is happening. It has absolutely everything to do with authoritarianism vs. libertarianism, and nothing to do with right vs. left.Check out politicalcompass.org's chart of the candidates for an extremely good picture of what I'm talking about:http://politicalcompass.org/usprimaries2008

Most likely, given the strong inference that the internet is a radical tool in itself, they will push to shut down the internet. That would take care of all communications outside of their control.

He didn't say that destruction of property was OK, only that it was a lesser crime than the taking of human life. "Destruction of property" is a broad category of action...could be accidental (e.g., car spins off the road into a building on a snowy day) or malicious (kids smash your mailbox on Halloween night)...but Halloween vandalism is ALREADY illegal, and punished by law, and it's still not "terrorism". ShorXrorE'S point was simply that there's no legitimate purpose served, in passing a law forbidding acts which have always been illegal, anyhow...and that the possibility of misuse of the new law is a real risk (wouldn't be the first time, and unintended consequences are always with us!).

Umm, under British laws of the Georgian period, they were all guilty of treason against the Crown, and would have been executed en masse, had we lost the Revolution. That's the spooky bit; this law's a step backward toward the bad old days of the "divine right of kings".
