The internet, as a concept, is internationl but, for the most part, the internet as a "real thing" is the computer in your home. It remains very easy to track most users right to that home. The only reason there are not already locks on the data that can be transferred are the common-carrier provisions in US law. If those are amended you will see how fast ISPs CAN block any traffic they want to block. Were you not paying attention to Comcast?Illegal filesharing can be stopped but it will require some distasteful changes to law. Now, when I say "stopped" I'm talking about Joe Sixpack who can't figure out why Limewire stopped working. I mean "stopped" in the sense that 98% of the illegal fileshareing could be stopped dead in its tracks by ISPs (working with content providers) using existing technology. Believe it.If you have a driver's license then privacy is already an illusion. The government knows all it needs about you to come cart you away to an extermination camp. Privacy is NOT what protects people from government.

If the government is really that interested in finding you or finding out more about you, believe me, the iPhone is the least of your worries. All cell phones are required, by law, to be able to report their position so you can be found in case of an emergency or if you dial 911. Cell companies are already required to hand over call logs to the authorities with a subpoena. And the other part about contact pictures is not only impractical but probably wouldn't work: contact pictures are like 50x50px (good luck making an ID from that) and are stored on your phone or SIM card along with your phonebook. Unless you had some kind of over-the-air phonebook sync thing, it would be inaccessible from the network. But why bother when there's facebook/myspace?

You are suggesting the destruction of the internet is the next "logical" step because content makers cant control their media? Sorry, thats not "logical" at all to me.How does this sound to you: "You INSIST on buying/selling/smoking marijuana? Fine, get ready for tapped phones, random searches, and long prison terms! Why? Because since pot is illegal we have to sacrifice other important factors as a society to try and stop it- losing some personal liberties is the next logical step. We will simply ignore the fact that it wont go away no matter what we do!"So now what? Either condemn all pot users? Or express understanding at the new tactics in the war on drugs? You clearly express sympathy for the douchbags who think attempting to f**k up the internet is going to help stop copyright infringement. It wont, and even if it did it wouldnt be worth it anyway.

No need for that cause unlike in 1984 you can switch providers if you don't like the service you are getting. I will switch to anyone but AT&T if this happens. Trust me as thousands of subscribers leave, AT&T will listen to what they know best ... $$$$

Will AT&T really have the right to do that? We'll keep up with the progress at: http://www.myintellectualpropertyrights.com
