blog.wired.com — This is the next generation open-platform phone that runs Linux. My impressions of the hardware: it's lightweight with a beautiful screen, but the small form factor coupled with the high-resolution display means the stylus will remain indispensable.

Who cares about the OS on their phone. As long as it is reliable (leaves out Windows Mobile 5, 6,...) and has great UI (leaves out clunky buttons, trackballs, and other mechanical hacks). I don't care that my iPhone has OS X on it. I care that the UI is beautiful and very functional and anticipates what I am trying to do. I care that it makes web browsing easier than any other phone with a hig-rez screen and best-in-class touch screen operation. I care that it combines a music player with the phone. I care that syncs all my data. It isn't perfect, but it's the best phone by far I have every used (including RIM and Palm and Samsung crud). If this phone eventually does all that, then it too will rock. If not, it will be yet another gimmicky developer phone that never developed the ecosystem it needed to survive like the iPhone has. I'd like the iPhone to have competition. I hope they make it better, right now its not even close.

Does anyone else think that the official press pictures look ugly, but pictures of it in the real world look pretty cool?

Yea.. same here. Been thinking about starting a 2 year with AT&T and getting a blackjack free through newegg... And then getting the neo when a good camera version comes out hopefully soon next year. I know I know.. AT&T is evil... but they're the only one with decent GSM coverage. And what I hear is that the neo will be gsm only for the foreseeable future... unless anyone knows better?
