Well let these companies make useless CPU functions. This way those chips will be over priced, while older chips that will be fully USEFUL will be much cheaper.
Everyone keeps asking if anyone actually runs windows 64 bit. I personally don't but then again I don't have a 64bit processor. However, a good buddy of mine does run it on his desktop. He tried to run it on his laptop but couldn't find the drivers for his sound card so he went back to regular windows with it. He really likes the 64bit version of windows though. He kinda planned for it and tried to only get hardware that is supported though. I've watched him play far cry many times and I know that he has gotten the 64bit version of hl2 running now but I havn't had chance to see it yet. He is running a sli system and he never has any stability issues - (well not yet) Far Cry does seem to run a little better and he has told me that hl2 loads a hell of a lot faster. Just my 2 cents and going on his word without seeing it yet.
quote:Now *that* being said, Windows XP 64bit is an unstable piece of s**t. At least as far as doing anything productive with it. There are some crappy drivers for things and some games may or may not work, but chances are you have plenty of insta-reboots, freezes, crashes and games refusing to startup (Obscure, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and many many others) at all to look forward to.----Now this is just crap. I've been running the 64 bit version of Windows ever since its release, and it has been rock solid and stable since day one. Windows 32-bit was unstable on my machine, and would reboot every now and then with a bsod, but this has not happened with the 64 bit version.

Anyway, Far Cry has proven that x64 is the way to go for gaming. Also, if some games don't work, I'm sure there are, or will be soon, patches to fix it.

Hmm..The article used the Athlon 64 with Venice core..I though 64bit HL was developed to take advantage of AMD Athlon 64 FX processor. That's what it said on the HL2 homepage.http://www.half-life2.com/news.php?id=496But then again not many people can afford $1000 CPU...
