examiner.com — The University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre appears to have suffered a security breach earlier today, when an unknown hacker apparently downloaded 1079 e-mails and 72 documents of various types and published them to an anonymous FTP server. Much of this information is damning, and shows the Centre involved in sharp practices.

Aww, USArugula is keeping score! Good for you, fellow veggie! Of course, that comment was in keeping with the topic of the article -- notice I didn't go on about the appearance of the submitter in an ad hominem (that's Latin for "at the man") kind of way.

acknotSW: I pressed your precise point over and over again with my middle school students. My kids seemed to yearn for certainty and were willing to secure it almost anywhere. I can see the earnest, frustrated faces of two six grade twins almost in tears at my slowness to embrace AGW and CFL's. They proved ultimately smart enough to buy into cautious objectivity before total commitment but so many were too happy being certain about their uncritical embrace of the Cause of the Week to listen. I only hope that this scandal attracts their attention now that I've gone and retired.

You seem to believe that there is some "normal" level of CO2 that the earth's systems can tolerate. This "normal" amount would be what is produced by nature. But what you don't seem to understand is that each year this natural amount varies considerably. The earth's systems cannot tell if the total amount emitted is greater because of human contribution or a big volcano that exploded that year (Krakatoa or such). Natural systems have proven to be tolerant of varying levels of CO2 input and humans have adapted to climate change within their lifetimes many times in the past. Check the ancient Greek accounts of climate change forcing relocation of olive groves, for example. Until 1991, even the IPCC climate history showed the medieval warming period and little ice age. Now, they claim a hockey stick for the last 1,000 years. What a joke.
