ehomeupgrade.com — Very cool. Casey at Brains-N-Brawn has figured out a way to stream DivX video to the Xbox 360 using Windows Media Endcoder (via HD Beat). This is great news for all us lazy people who would otherwise need a program like Videora Xbox360 Converter to manually transcode each video into Xbox compatible WMV

Can't wait til the chips come out for the 360. I'm still astounded by what my modded xbox can do...can't wait to see what the modded 360 will do.

This is so... lame. I mean, kudos to the guy who pulled it off, but having to do it in the first place is lame. This is, essentially, re-encoding a video for a general-purpose computing platform because that computing platform is locked down. You know the ironic thing? The 360 itself could do a much better job at transcoding from Divx to WMV than any current PC can. Except if you could do that, you wouldn't need to transcode the video, because you could just decode it in the first place. One major obstacle I see with this method is that the transcode process (divx -> WMV), which must be done on the PC, requires a lot of processing power. Higher end PCs should be able to do it in realtime at DVD resolutions, but forget about midrange computers. Or HD.

Not a hack, it's a feature of MCE 2005, 2nd it doesn't stream divx, it streams wmv (real-time transcoding)

You may also want to try another simplified application called MCEVideoEncoder. You can download a free app at:http://www.lightningware.co.uk/software/lwsoftware.asp

Sorry, forgot to mention that MCEVideoEncoder offers the ability to Fast Forward, Pause and Rewind the encoding process. It also has a windows client application that can be controlled though windows messages and command files, therefore is great for developing other applications and controlling remotely. The application is free to try and then 4.99 (GBP) to register.
