If the Jerk hadn't went on record threatening to "take his site down", and bragged about it it would'nt have been so bad,, no wait a minute,, if he hadn't have stolen peoples credit card numbers it wouldn't have been so bad. If he was really into it for political reasons. (Hates republicans) he should have done what every other script kiddy does in the world, and defaced the site.Honestly you can't tell me there was no criminal intent. The victims who have had their credit cards stolen explain it in good detail here.<a class="user" href="http://www.protestwarrior.com/newsletters/05_26_06.php">http://www.protestwarrior.com/newsletters/05_26_06.php</a>"In January of last year, the hacker group collectively known as the "Internet Liberation Front" gained illegal access to the ProtestWarrior server, stealing thousands of credit card numbers in order to commit massive credit card fraud. The following month, ProtestWarrior discovered the identity of the perpetrators: Jeremy Hammond and a ring of hackers recruited through his criminal front at hackthissite.org.ProtestWarrior performed a forensic analysis of the intrusion and contacted the FBI, which immediately launched an investigation. With the collected evidence, the FBI was able to execute a search warrant on Jeremy's residence on March 16, 2005. Among the items confiscated were Jeremy's computers, harddrives, data CDs, and even a PDA."
He planned on donating to charities with stolen credit card numbers? That's one of the funniest, and most f'ed excuses I've ever heard in my life! What good would it have done to make donations to charity with stolen credit card numbers? It would have only resulted in lists upon lists of disputed charges and a hell of a lot more work for others. It's the equivalent of vandalism.I don't know the entire story behind what he did, so I would have to say it's possible he got the numbers just to do it. I'd be willing to bet he really had no intentions of using the numbers.
I think I like "angstivist" the best. It only shows up once in a usenet post from alt.gothic back in 2003, so I think you can safely claim it, especially in this context. Thanks for the good discussion, too. Happy Solstice right back at you :)
Is there any way for what you posted to be published on PW, so it's a verifiable source for wikipedia? I'd love to see that information added to the article on Hammond.
Jeremy tried getting his cronies to put up wikipedia pages several times. They were taken down and deleted, as he wasn't classified as a "notable person".
Yeah, I've read them.No offense, but I've noticed the PW site has been sorta stagnant lately.Any word on when we're going to see more updates? Also, I kinda don't see a point in putting up a wikipedia page specifically for Jeremy Hammond. Why extend his fifteen minutes?Hell, I liked one of the responses before the second attempt was kiboshed.Adrian Lamo: I've never heard of this guy..Damn..it appears that it's appeared again.Time to go rhino and stamp another fire.
Let me start by saying that I am a part of HTS (as well as a number of other hacktivist sites), and that I never met nor did I know Jeremy, so I won't make judgement calls about him personally based on one deed. If any of you can say you've never done something that stupid, than you must have skipped puberty all together. I am not interested in what he did or did not intend to do with the cc numbers. What does interest my about this are a few points that seem to be getting glossed over here:1.) Why in the hell is PW keeping upwards of 5000 credit card numbers on a database on your site? Is there any valid reason why some one would donate $$ to your organization and instead of purging the info and keeping a hard copy offline (and preferabbly off computer) that you would keep them all online? I'm more surprised that no one who had their info stolen has come forward to ask this same question. Now, im not condoning nor condeming what Jeremy did. That was his decision and he is paying the price for it. But as a legal credit card holder, i can gain some gradification knowing that someone who decides it's ok to KEEP my info (in an sql database no less) now has to explain to 5000 people WHY their info was in jeopardy in the first place.2.) To the sysadmin of PW who went on a tyrade to explain how Jeremy is a "5|
He did it for the right reason. There are REAL criminals like people, ProtestWarrior.com and George Bush, who should be arrested for the crimes that they did. Millions of people are being killed and raped and they arrested him and put him in an over crowded jail with a bunch of rapist and murders? I guess the system doesn't work in America.Free your mind from propaganda, T.V, false Internet information, and politics and fill it with knowledge and heart.oh yeah and Free Jimmy!
