farmingsecretsblog.com — Main backer and lobbyist is Monsanto - chemical and genetic engineering giant corporation (and Cargill, ADM, and about 35 other related agri-giants). This bill will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed agency to “make sure there is no danger to the public food supply”. with video

See anonFBItarget's comment below, and consider we are not currently jailing bush due to similar, carefully worded official documents. Megacorp lawyers collectively go skiing the day they teach 'spirit and intent of the law'.

I disagree. The intent of the bill is to ensure a safe food supply - not give the whole world to Monsanto. That's obvious. The nub is how would you optimally word the bill so as to regulate additives to prevent the use of, say, mercury-laced fertilizers, or melamine etc.?

The bill is a Trojan Horse designed to place more power in the hands of centralized corporatist control. Folks calling these posts "alarmist" or "conspiracy bulls**t" really have little understanding of how power is centralized gradually over time. If you let them do it, they will do it, and they will use useful idiots all the way home.

Problem, reaction, solution. Trojan Horse. Power to shut down small businesses and small farms on a whim.

This article is paranoid nonsense, buried as inaccurate.<a class="user" href="http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/would_a_new_bill_in_congress_make.html">http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/would_a_new_ ...</a>"Talk about Internet hysteria. This bill, H.R. 875, introduced by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), has sparked chain e-mails, blog postings and other exclamation-point-filled rants (like the one above), claiming that the legislation targets organic farmers, benefits manufacturers of genetically engineered seeds, and threatens to uproot backyard vegetable gardens across the country. It doesn't. "<a class="user" href="http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_17355.cfm">http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_1 ...</a>"Of course, Monsanto and large corporate agribusiness are out to destroy traditional farming. Unfortunately, while many people have been distracted by HR 875, the biotech companies have been hard at work pushing their agenda"<a class="user" href="http://www.thedailygreen.com/healthy-eating/blogs/healthy-food/organic-farming-440320604">http://www.thedailygreen.com/healthy-eating/blogs/ ...</a>"MYTH: H.R. 875 "makes it illegal to grow your own garden" and would result in the "criminalization of the backyard gardener."FACT: There is no language in the bill that would regulate, penalize, or shut down backyard gardens. This bill is focused on ensuring the safety of foods sold in supermarkets.""MYTH: The bill is supported by the large agribusiness industry.FACT: No large agribusiness companies have expressed support for this bill. This bill is being supported by several Members of Congress who have strong progressive records on issues involving farmers markets, organic farming, and locally-grown foods (Barbara Lee, etc.). Also, H.R. 875 is the only food safety legislation that has been supported by all the major consumer and food safety groups""MYTH: H.R. 875 would result in the "death of organic farming."FACT: There is no language in the bill that would stop organic farming. The National Organic Program (NOP) is under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Food Safety Modernization Act only addresses food safety issues under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."

To have an idea on how this works just bear in mind how abortion bills are passed in many countries:1 - permit only when there is risk for the mother's health (nevermind the child...)2 - allow a wider scope for rape, foetus malformation, 10 year old pregnancies, etc.3 - start speaking on "reproductive rights" and finally push for wide open the door (Spain "just did it")Do you want to hear the joke of the Encyclopedia salesman? - It is a "chain reaction", you must stop the enemy quite in advance, like the military (oh God haven't I hear this before?) - Got the point?
