wrong, catastrophee. It's because the way the keyboard works is it has a grid of traces that the switches under the keys connect to. Otherwise if you would need a wire for each key, over 100 traces. But if you have a grid, you might only need 24 or so, as each key completes multiple circuits. The chip in there repeatedly scans the traces to see which are completed, and certain combinations indicate particular keys have been pressed. The major problem is that certain combinations of keys produce non-unique patterns, so you have to make sure that keys used in combinations like shift, ctrl, etc can be used in all the possible combinations that make sense without being non-unique. They didn't expect you to use both shift keys at once, so they didn't have to make sure all those combinations would work.
