Get a sound card with a hardware equalizer, then you can tell the difference. You can get a 15 dollar sound blaster audigy card from fry's. Use the YouP - PaX drivers to use the higher quality and less rigged audigy 4 drivers.Creative has a tendency to purposely ruin good drivers to make you buy newer products.
Forget about the sound card. Why waste $75 on XP when you can torrent a corporate version for free? Or get Vista Ultimate x86 from The Pirate Bay and use the Paradox crack. But of course, being a legitimate site, they can't condone that. However, I do.
you gave away the pc and bitch at MS for taking your os? wtf kind of hipocrisy is that. you might as well say that the computer manufacturers are stealing from you too, seeing as how you gave away the computer with the os on it. dont like the os, fine. but dont bash it for your own idiocy.
I have nearly the same system. But I spent like. Oh yes. Do not buy anything from futureshop. I spent more on a gefore 7600 bfg oc then my core2 e6300 + vista ultimate + intel mobo. W00t epp.

Perhaps because a lot of the time it drastically can reduce performance?

Not that I'm advocating the use of the PS3 as primary PC here, but if you install linux it indeed does support OpenOffice and development.

I got an NEC dual layer burner about 3 years ago for $75 and it still works great.
