Yeah making a blue or green room is easy with paint or fabric or whatever--lighting it properly is the real tricky part.

if you're really into this sort of thing and want to know the best apps and how to use them then join the Pixel Corps: <a class="user" href="http://www.pixelcorps.com/">http://www.pixelcorps.com/</a>

No digg. As has been said above, the big trick is getting the matte to extract well off of the blue/green. Lighting is important, and yeah green's the color to use for digital.

Would be better if they suggested some software to use and gave a software guide too- <a class="user" href="http://www.AlexsWebcamWorld.com">http://www.AlexsWebcamWorld.com</a>

Best software I've found for keying (DV footage mianly) is the FXHome stuff, www.fxhome.com and try CompositeLab..Next step up, for DV again, Ultimattes keyers are great, though cost a bit more/do a bit less, but gives nice results (Mainly on hair/semi-transparent stuff)Things like AE tend to be aimed at film footage, not DV, so give better results if you happen to have stupidly expensive cameras and film lying around, though there are plugins/techiques to get decent results with it..And as for setting up a green/blue screen, it's not hard at all, just make sure it's fairly smooth, big enough, and half-decently lit (CompositeLab does a good job with crappy backgrounds though, as will Ultimatte if you take a clean-plate image)Anyway, site's down here.. grr- Ben

Building the set is nowhere near as difficult as setting up the lighting, and understanding how to correctly use the software you are going to edit your movie with.

I'm so torn. Should I Digg this or not ?? :pI wrote the original tutorial back in 2001 when there were no other tutorials on the web for doing this stuff....<a class="user" href="http://www.jushhome.com/Bluescreen/Bluescreen.html">http://www.jushhome.com/Bluescreen/Bluescreen.html</a>Didn't know of this copy until seeing the digg article ( ), but is is a copy (-), but then again, they do link to my site ( ), but it's still ancient history (-) .... so .... no digg from me. :-)[EDIT: On the other hand, this is my first digg post, and I can't figure out how to turn off the 1, so it ends up getting a 1 from me anyway. Sheesh.]The original site shows some example (shot on a crappy 4:1:1 consumer ZR25 and comped in Media Studio Pro). Also, the tutorials list there include discussions on blue vs green (which also mentions lighting), as well as keying tutorials and custom plugins for MSP (probably useless for most folks).<a class="user" href="http://www.jushhome.com/nick/tutorials.asp">http://www.jushhome.com/nick/tutorials.asp</a>These days I'm usually working 4:4:4, moving camera shots from the PixelCorps F950 in Shake, AE, MatchMover, boujou, etc. so yeah, this thing is getting old old old. Someday I'll have to make time to update this old site.BTW: Lots of good comments here about lighting, reflections and wrinkles and stuff.Have fun.

omg a bit late on the post but you'll get over it... i cant beleive you guys dont see the point to this how to, its to SAVE MONEY as much as possible... the material he is using i a plastic tablecloth which has a weave pattern on it which will stop the light refelcting like normal plastics... its not the guys fault if you have no idea how to chroma key properly, im 16 and i probebly know better than you... seriously its a great idea and it will allow young people and low budget people like me create a nice simple greenscreen. With the right programme you can remove all the problems in secconds... do i give this article a digg... YES of course i do... do i give those sooks who have no idea on what they are doing a digg... god no... have fun! =)
