Except that it's Ubuntu, which has no root shell enabled by default. Unless you've specifically added a password to root, sudo is the "Ubuntu Way" for what it's worth.

How is that a "typical Gentoo user comment"? Never ONCE did I say that "Ubuntu sucks"...because it doesn't. Never ONCE did I say that everyone should be using Gentoo....because it isn't for everyone. It's just that Ubuntu is NOTHING incredibly special like they advertise. There is NOTHING that makes it *better* from FC5, SuSE, Gentoo, etc. People don't understand this. What's easy for one person may not be easy for another. This isn't a flame.....this is reality.

APT is for the Debian distro, not for exclusuvely for Ubuntu. Ubuntu is based off Debian as is DSL, Knoppix etc. There are a lot of debian branches... and I must admit apt is f**king brilliant... no idea how emerge works but I guess you have to compile it with optimizations? Yeah... it takes long enough to download the friggin program.

I'm having the same problem you guys are. Any way to get that recode to work properly? I tried rende's method but came up w/ the same results. I'm thinking the article-writer posted all that before he tried it out himself. Either that or is leaving out a step.Marked as INACCURATE.

Ubuntu is on 1 CD and can be ordered for free delivery or downloaded. The Ubuntu forum is very friendly. The Hardware detection is better than other distros I have tried. Those are the reasons I really ENJOY using Ubuntu and choose it above others.

As a 12 year Adobe Photoshop user, I can tell you that although GIMP shows alot of promise for the Linux Community, it certainly is NOT photoshop.I will be trying this on a test machine tomorrow, as I hate running PS in a VMWare Server, and CS2 is the only thing keeping me in Windows now ...BTW ... Here is the DiggMirrorhttp://www.duggmirror.com/linux_unix/HOW_TO_Adobe_Photoshop_CS2_on_Ubuntu_10_steps/
