Teleflip guesses the provider based on the exchange and area code. e.g., 650 814 **** numbers are all Sprint. Problem is, if you take your number with you from Sprint to say, Cingular, teleflip keeps sending emails to Sprint anyway, and your recipient never gets them.And of course, everyone I text has used number portability at some point, so teleflip doesn't work for any of them.
