engadget.com — HD DVD's response to being unceremoniously jilted by Warner going into CES was ... nothing. A canceled press conference, downtrodden Toshiba press conference and rumors of further losses left great doubt that red had anything left in 2008, but now HD DVD is firing back.

yes and no, nobody is suggesting the new players will continue selling at their current price it is a given that tech product prices fall as volumes increase what people are saying is; as it is now a long way back for hd-dvd so really blu ray is going to eventually end up in that price point you suggested by default.volume will bring down the price but there now looks like hd-dvd isn't going to get to that production volume. the war is being won it is a public relations war.

Consumers decided *nothing*."Expecting the canned answer like, "Well, we thought it was the superior format and I'm happy to say that we were right," you could imagine my surprise when the very first reason he gave was Blu-ray's piracy controls."<a class="user" href="http://blogs.cnet.com/8301-13506_1-9847914-17.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20">http://blogs.cnet.com/8301-13506_1-9847914-17.html ...</a>

Okay, who wants to buy an incredibly heavy 36" standard-def flat tube TV?

If they really want to win they bundle the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive with the of the next big titles like they should have done with Halo 3.

One thing about cable providers is that compliance with the law on the change over ONLY affects the major networks and local stations. Cox in my area says that if their cable channel broadcasters decide to move to digital channels, you won't be able to get them anymore down your cable unless you pony up for their digital converter or buy a digital TV. They also refuse to sell you their converter which means endless rental fees until you buy your own set.Mike
